Tempo Traveller Driver Died, Vehicle Washed Away In Landslide In Kerala

A tempo traveller driver died on the hilly Munnar-Vattavada route in Kerala’s Idukki district on Saturday as heavy rains continued to batter the area, according to authorities.

When the landslide struck the Munnar-Vattavada road, Vadakara resident Roopesh (45) was unable to escape from his car, according to the police.

The pace rider was a member of a Vadakara-based tour group of three vehicles. He is believed to have been stuck inside the vehicle, but all other vehicles and passengers made it out safely, according to Munnar police, who spoke to PTI.

The vehicle was discovered, according to the police, 700 metres downhill in an area favoured by wild elephants.

The rescue effort has been put on hold for the evening, according to Idukki District Collector Sheeba George, and will begin at 6 am on Sunday.
She stated that the operation had to be suspended owing to heavy rains and a lack of light.
