Draupadi Murmu – All You Need To Know About The First Tribal Women President Of India

On Thursday, Draupadi Murmu was chosen to serve as India’s 15th president. Murmu moved into Rashtrapati Bhavan as the building’s first Adivasi resident. She was a former minister in Odisha and the former governor of Jharkhand.

When Draupadi Murmu was chosen as India’s first tribal president on Thursday, she wrote history. The 64-year-old defeated Yashwant Sinha by a wide margin. On July 25, Murmu will take his oath of office.

1. In 1958, Draupadi Murmu was born in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. She finished her studies at Bhubaneswar’s Unit II High School and Rama Devi College.

2. From 1979 to 1983, she worked as a junior assistant in the State Irrigation and Power Department. From 1984 to 1997, she was a teacher at the Rairangpur location of the Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Center.

3. A few years ago, she lost her husband and both of her sons. Itishri Murmu, one of her daughters, is employed with the UCO bank in Odisha. Rugby player Ganesh Hembram and Itishri were wed in 2015. Apparently, they have a young kid, according to ABP live.

4. After losing her loved ones, Murmu embraced the Brahma Kumaris movement and became a dedicated practitioner of their meditation practices. According to IANS, Murmu first established contact with the Brahma Kumari Sansthan in Mount Abu, Rajasthan, some 13 years ago.

5. Murmu entered politics for the first time in 1997 after being chosen as a Rairangpur district board councilor. She would later go on to represent the same constituency as an MLA.

6. Before taking office as the governor of Jharkhand on May 18, 2015, Murmu served in the BJD-BJP coalition administration in Odisha as an MLA twice and a minister once. According to ABP live, Murmu held the position until 2021 before relocating to her village in Rairangpur.

7. She served as the state’s first female governor as well as the first female tribal chief to hold the position in any Indian state.
